ACES
According to the CDC, 1 in 7 children have experienced child abuse and/or neglect every year, and this is likely an underestimate. In 2019, 1,840 children died of abuse and neglect in the United States.
TIC
Using the nursing process we can begin to prioritize trauma-informed care in our clinical practice. This holistic approach first petitions us as healthcare providers to clarify our own biases surrounding abuse. Only through self-awareness can we begin to assess for history of trauma and analyze data to formulate a diagnosis that address both physiologic and psychologic needs. From a trauma-informed perspective can we plan client-centered care and Implement teaching opportunities that highlight disease prevention. And finally, we have to evaluate the overall response of our communities to current data on trauma and revise to include the most vital needs of the people we serve.
community
Stewardship through collaboration with our neighbors is the overarching aim of DFM. Many of our most profound ideas started in a group discussion and it takes a village to raise strong children. Over the next few years we are excited to partner with community-based organizations to create opportunities to discuss ACES & TIC, support survivors, and offer family educational sessions to foster a safe environment for all.
